Foundations of Control 8/2007
In recent years, the concept of benchmarking, introduced to identify and adopt/adapt the industry best practices with a view to enable construction firms to achieve higher quality in products and customer services, has attracted considerable managerial attention because of
its huge potential competitive impact. This paper presents a benchmarking best practice tool to provide the best practices and directions for improving quality in
construction industry. This tool developed is based on the literature review and best practice survey of 70 large construction firms coupled with in-depth interviews of managers of four top Indian construction firms. The proposed benchmarking best practice tool offers good
performance when applied to a variety of standard problems related to construction
projects.
