Prof. dr hab. n. med.
Ukończył studia matematyczne na Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim, a następnie medycynę w Akademii Medycznej w Poznaniu. Obecnie jest kierownikiem Katedry i Kliniki Perinatologii i Ginekologii Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Poznaniu. W latach 2002–2008 był rektorem Akademii Medycznej, przekształcając tę uczelnię w Uniwersytet Medyczny. Przez kilka lat pracował w Universite Pierre et Marie Curie w Paryżu oraz w Uniwersytecie w Cambridge. Zasadniczym polem zainteresowań naukowych jest medycyna perinatalna oraz matematyczna analiza sygnałów biologicznych. Jest promotorem kilkudziesięciu rozpraw doktorskich oraz opiekunem kilku rozpraw habilitacyjnych. Redaktor czasopism o tematyce związanej z medycyną perinatalną, członek licznych kolegiów redakcyjnych polskich i zagranicznych czasopism naukowych. Autor i współautor wielu publikacji książkowych, redaktor kilku monografii, organizator programów i sympozjów z dziedziny ginekologii i położnictwa, członek polskich i zagranicznych towarzystw naukowych, znakomity dydaktyk i nauczyciel akademicki.
